The Bund

The Pearl TV tower (the tall structure on the right)

Last night, my friend and I were bored after having dinner so we decided to take the subway and head off to "The Bund". It's probably the most famous tourist attraction here in Shanghai. It has twenty-four major structures, of uneven heights along approximately 1.5 kilometers of Zhongshan Road and the Huangpu River. All were constructed in western-inspired styles --classical, gothic, renaissance, ecclectic and modern--a reported seventeen styles of architecture (taray noh?!). The Bund has been called a 'museum of international architecture,' and indeed it was and still is. Located also here are banks, hotels, exclusive clubs, press organizations and headquarters of international concerns. This is where you can find also the famous bars and restaurants such as M on the Bund, New Heights, Laris, Jean Jorges and Bar Rouge. There were so much people last night and they were actually local chinese. You can also take a cruise by the river for an hour and enjoy the sights both in the Bund area and in Pudong where the distinctive Pearl TV can be seen. The lights are spectacular but sad to say, they turn everything off at 10pm.
