Split At Last

Just thought you'd like to know:

Yes, these 2 have split. I never really thought they would last.....considering that Reichen is such a hunk compared to Lance. U deserve someone more gorgeous Reichen!!!

Juliette

I never knew that Juliette Lewis had a band. Yes, that Oscar-nominee for her finger-sucking role in Cape Fear opposite Robert De Niro has been doing gigs for a couple of years now. And she was here in Shanghai last weekend for this Hennessey event. I would have watched her if i only knew it was her. Her group's name is Juliette Lewis and the Licks.

Isn't she cool?!

Paris Cover (or Uncover)

Check out the November 2006 Paris Vogue cover:

I just think that if she weren't "Paris," she wouldn't have made it on the cover with that top.

Copycats?

If you have been keeping track of Project Runway, then you must agree with me to say that the dress that Andrae & Daniel designed for the Banana Republic challenge in season 2 (right) pretty much resembles the dress that Alexandra designed in season 1 (left), also for the Banana Republic challenge. And, the guys even won the challenge but Alexandra didn't!

Does It Get Any Straighter?

Check this out:

It's a coin-operated hair straightening hot iron machine which roughly costs about US$1.85 per use. It uses professional grad GHD tongs. There has been 500 units already of this placed in clubs and gyms throughout the UK. I can't wait to see these in men's restrooms.

Green is the Theme

Check out the interiors of this yoga center:

"Comprised of three yoga rooms, four massage rooms, a meditation space, and several other communal facilities, all designed to inspire the most amazing yoga experience, the center provides the perfect harmony between space and practice."

It's called Y + Yoga Center. They have 2 branches here in Shanghai but the photos above show the one in Xintiandi (2/F Two Corporate Avenue, 202 Hubin Road).

Coolness

Finally I can access my blogspot again. I can't believe that my last entry was a few weeks back. Anyway, the weather has drastically changed already here in Shanghai. It has now become officially cold. Because of that, I have begun assembling my fall/winter collection. I've started to buy scarves and coats. Last sunday, I've bought my first-ever coat made of 78% wool. Haven't worn it yet though. But for the past few days, I have made my scarves as basic essentials of my daily wardrobe. Here is a pic of myself before going out last friday:

This is taken inside my apartment. Don't you just love my background wall?! So LV!!!

Magic

Check out the brilliance and ingenuity of turkish cypriot designer Hussein Chalayan as seen in his 2007 Spring/Summer Collection:

Now if only there'd be more shows like his.....clap clap clap!!!

No More Tape

I have been using regular tape to take out those white shreds of fabric on my clothing after laundry. I reverse the tape, making the sticky part go on the outside, then roll it on over any piece of my clothing which needs cleaning.

Good thing I went into this small office/school supplies store near my apartment yesterday. I saw a real lint remover which costs only 9rmb. The roll is actually 3 meters-long and comes in pink.

I saw a different kind in one of the more expensive supermarkets here and they were selling it for 35rmb. Such a rip-off! That's why I'm happy.

Knight Out

Yes, Grey's Anatomy's T.R. Knight has come out of the closet.
"I guess there have been a few questions about my sexuality, and I'd like to quiet any unnecessary rumors that may be out there," Knight said in a statement. "While I prefer to keep my personal life private, I hope the fact that I'm gay isn't the most interesting part of me." (from perezhilton.com)

Although I think he's better off straight.

Zhouzhuang

Last saturday, I went out on a trip with a few people from my volleyball group. We visited Zhouzhuang, a town that's about an hour and a half away from Shanghai by land. It's mainly surrounded by water with boats as the main transportation for short distance trips. It was originally built in 1086 and is famous for the preservation of numerous buildings of the the Ming and Qing Dynasties (yes, I researched that).

Among the other sights that caught my attention were:

These birds are actually used for fishing. The fishermen tie the birds' necks, blocking their throats, disabling them to swallow the fishes they catch with their beaks. In that way, all the fishes are just stuck in their mouths.

And here is the Chinese' verison of a Hello Kitty lamp. Too bad they didn't have Fido Dido.

Ex-CK Model

I'm a big fan of the TV hit series Grey's Anatomy. But I didn't know that Justin Chambers, who plays "Alex" in the show, used to be a Calvin Klein model.

Season 3 is currently showing in the States.....meaning it's still a long wait until I catch it on dvd.

Sightings

A friend of mine is visiting here in Shanghai and what best way to make him remember his trip is to show him the sights of the Bund. I've been here a couple of times but last night's view was spectacular.

And look at what we spotted inside a phonebooth as we were headed to Bar Rouge.....

Look closely:

I guess she never called.

Amazing Skyscrapers

This is the Shanghai World Financial Center, designed by ShanghaiKohn Pederson Fox Architects. It is now under construction, scheduled to be completed by 2008. Rising in the Lujiazhui financial district in Pudong, the Shanghai World Financial Center is said to be a "tower among towers." The elegant 101-story skyscraper will be (for a moment, at least) the world's tallest when completed in early 2008.
"One of the biggest challenges of building tall is creating a structure that can withstand high winds. The architects devised an innovation solution to alleviate wind pressure by adding a rectangular cut-out at the building's apex. Not only does the open area help reduce the building's sway but it also will be home to the world's highest outdoor observation deck -- a 100th-floor vista that will take vertigo to new heights."

Here's a pic I took when I was in the area. I guess the SWFC still has a long way to go. Erected behind it is the 88-storey Jin Mao tower, said to be the third tallest tower on Earth (so far). It was designed by SOM. Oh, the Grand Hyatt Hotel is located also here, occupying the 53rd up to the 87th floor. It is known to be the highest hotel in the world. I wonder how high also their room rates are.

Enrique and Mini

Here's a short clip with 2 of my favorite models in the fashion world...Enrique Palacios and Mini Anden:

Happy Birthday Vogue-China

I was touring the sister of a good friend of mine in Xintiandi last week and saw this "catwalk" set-up inside the mall.

The tiny model-cutouts actually move around just like in a regular fashion show. It looked amazing but actually, nobody seemed to notice since I was the only person who took time to stop and look closely at it. The reason behind this is because the chinese fashion industry is celebrating Vogue-China's first year anniversary this month. Their first cover a year ago was supposed to be Gisele Bundchen but was cancelled in favor of western-australian gamine Gemma Ward. She was then 17 years old with 13 Vogue covers in her portfolio. The fashion bible was styled by French Vogue Doyenne Carine Rotfield and was shot by the remarkable Patrick Demarchelier in Shanghai. Of course it was a gatefold cover with Ward, together with five chinese models including Miss China 2003 Du Juan and shanghainese beauty Wang Wenqin.

Don't they just look lovely?!
